Written test duration: 60 minutes (Reading-Writing) + 15-minute introduction

  • Both tests take place on the same day:
    • Morning: Oral test
    • Afternoon: Written test
  • Registration: You must register no later than 15 days before the test. You will receive your language passport, showing your results (A1, A2, or B1), directly by mail approximately 4 weeks after the fide test.

What is fide?

The TEF (Test d’Évaluation de Français) assesses French language proficiency at levels A1–C2. The certificate is issued by the organisation Français des affaires (France).

The test lasts approximately 3 hours 30 minutes, depending on the modules chosen.

It is recognised worldwide and in Switzerland on a par with the FIDE test by the country’s authorities for the renewal of residence permits and naturalisation.

It usually takes place on Wednesday afternoons (see dates).

The test comprises sections on listening comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking and writing.

The tests take place on the same day at the Chablais Language Centre (Rue de Jérusalem 2, 1860 Aigle).
